The Everest Challenge: Supporting BC Children’s Hospital

On Friday, 29th November, I’ll be joined by a few fearless friends as we take on the challenge of climbing the equivalent elevation of Mt Everest’s 8,848m by hiking up and down Soames Hill in Gibsons 89 times to raise money for BC Children’s Hospital, an organization that has given us so much over the last few years.

Donate here.

Starting Friday night at 8 pm, we’ll go through the night and hope to finish sometime Saturday afternoon. Come say hi, join us for a lap, or pick your own mountain challenge! (See poster)

Where: Soames Hill Park, South Stairs.

When: Friday, 29th November - Saturday 30th.

Our story

Our journey with BC Children’s Hospital began when my son, Otis, was born with a unilateral cataract in his left eye. Thanks to early detection, we were fortunate enough to be admitted to BC Children’s quickly, where the care and support we received were incredible.

At eight weeks old, Otis underwent surgery to remove the cataract. Any delay in treatment could have led to a permanent loss of sight in that eye, but because of the hospital’s fast action and amazing team, Otis has been on a successful road to recovery. Watching him today — ripping around on his balance bike, eye patch and all — fills us with gratitude for the incredible care and support provided at every step of this journey.

Handing our 8-week-old baby to the anesthesiologist was one of the hardest moments of our lives, but the team at BC Children’s Hospital were there to support us. Their work is truly life-changing, not only for Otis but for countless families across the province.

BC Children’s Hospital is the only hospital in the province devoted exclusively to children. Nearly a million kids rely on it each year, receiving essential care through innovative research, specialized equipment, and comforting support for both kids and families. Donations like yours make this possible.

Together, we can create new possibilities for kids like Otis and families across British Columbia. Your support helps ensure BC Children’s Hospital can continue delivering the best possible care when it’s needed most.

Thank you for your generosity and for helping us give back to a place that’s given us so much.
